SENILITA' (aka CARELESS) is a dramatic movie directed in 1962 by Mauro Bolognini, based on the novel of Italo Svevo and starring Claudia Cardinale, Anthony Franciosa, Philippe Leroy, Paola De Marco, Ersilia Di Marco, Raimondo Magni, Franca Mazzoni, Nando Angelini, Betsy Blair, Romano Puppo, John Stacy, Rada Simovic, Romano Toros, Marcella Valeri, Aldo Bufi Landi. The humdrum existence of Emilio Brentani (Franciosa) - an employee of Trieste, who lives with his sister Amalia - is interrupted by Angiolina (Cardinale) , a young commoner in which Emilio falls in love. But their relationship is made difficult by continual quarrels , scenes of jealousy and mutual misunderstandings , both for the difference in age and character but also for the fundamental amorality of the girl who goes from one adventure to another , Amalia Brentani , in turn, falls in love with Stefano Balli (Leroy) , a sculptor friend of Emilio . But the woman , conscious of not being loved in return , tired and disappointed poisons slowly with ether . Emilio , after the death of his sister , and after being abandoned by Angiolina , with whom he had one last , painful and humiliating encounter , remains desperately alone , on the threshold of a premature senility sentimental. Piero Piccioni wrote a dramatic orchestral score which emerge three main reasons taken with variations : TEMA DI AMALIA, TANGO DEL MARE, MUSICA DELLA NOTTE. The harrowing tale of the male protagonist is described with romantic and nostalgic sound atmospheres , alternating with dissonant passages and pieces of popular character. At the time, C.A.M. released an album at 33 rpm (CMS 30-037 ) with seventeen tracks ( 30:06 ) . For this CD with a total time of 72:18 it was possible to use , in addition to the master tape of the original album , the master tapes of the mono recording sessions that have uncovered about 42 minutes of unreleased material.
