The Mafia Only Kills in Summer (World-wide) (English title)
LA MAFIA UCCIDE SOLO D'ESTATE (THE MAFIA ONLY KILLS IN SUMMER) was directed and written by Pierfrancesco Diliberto, who also played a starring role alongside Cristiana Capotondi, Claudio Gioè and Antonio Bruschetta. It's the story of a young journalist, Alberto, coming of age in the period of the mafia massacres that exploded with particular ferocity from the '80s up to 1992.
The movie deals with the subject in an original way that is at once sarcastic, incisive and touching. With poignant narration and direction, Dilberto's surprising debut earns great success, garnering various nominations and awards.
Santi Pulvirenti composed a chilling score that brilliantly channels the emotional charge of the images on screen and that, among the other things, features a beautiful end title song in Sicilian dialect, the cherry on the cake of a fine production.
Born in Catania, Sicily, Pulvirenti has collaborated with important artists in both the national (Carmen Consoli, Tiro Mancino, Max Gazzè) and international music scenes (Patti Smith, Angèlique Kidjo), and having formerly collaborated with Paolo Buonvino, he's no newcomer to composing for cinema.
