David Shire anchors with agile melody over sturdy rhythm that propels, quickly commands. Flexible idea works throughout score in various guises, finally becomes rousing curtain closer at finale. (Dynamic piece later became popular in live concerts done by composer.) Shire balances with "old time" melody, adds element of nostalgia to score. I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES turns Walter Matthau, Ann-Margret, Dinah Manoff loose in L.A. for stab in movies. Marvin Hamlisch brings brief, sentimental score along for support, anchors with pretty melody written by himself with Carol Bayer Sager.
