IL PRINCIPE DEL DESERTO (aka IL LEONE DEL DESERTO, aka LA LOI DU DESERT, aka DESERT SOLDIER) is a 1989 TV movie in three episodes directed by Duccio Tessari and starring Carol Alt, Rutger Hauer, Kabir Bedi, Omar Sharif, Elliott Gould, Stewart Bick, David Flosi, Brett Halsey, Peter Sands, Christopher Ahrens, Larry Dolgin. A group of mercenaries, led by Tom Burton (Hauer), goes in search of Robert (Flosi), the thirteen old son of Catherine (Alt), who was kidnapped by her former husband Moulet Beni-Zair (Bedi) on behalf of his father Emir Beni-Zair (Sharif), a tough but noble sheik of the desert. Among other characters, Red Murchison a sneaky lawyer also appears (Gould). To describe the exotic atmosphere, but also the adventures between action and mystery of the characters, Ennio Morricone composed a symphonic OST featuring Il FIGLIO E LA NOSTALGIA a heroic main theme for orchestra and female vocals that the composer reprises alternating it with mysterious music such as in SGUARDO NASCOSTO, RIFLESSIONI SULLE RADICI, SCORPIONE and epic passages in IL PRINCIPE DEL DESERTO, IL NONNO, PREPARAZIONE ALLA CORSA,ARRIVANO, MORTE DI MULAY.
