We close our double bill dedicated to great Bruno Bozzetto with this little gem. West and Soda is an animated Western created in the iconic Italian painter's studio way back in 1964. It's a unique treat that combines the great Italian Western tradition, the Italian skill in animation and the talent of the musicians of the period, particularly trained in this kind of music.
Composer Giampiero Boneschi, a fine and prolific Italian musician, avails himself of the most proficient performers of the period including Alessandroni Cantori Moderni and the harmonica of Franco De Gemini.
A score with a touching intensity, its themes are given the full orchestral treatment and dominated by simple, poetic melodies that remind us of the Golden Age of cinematic Western scores.
Unfortunately, the original master tapes weren't in good shape, but they have been restored with paternal care and great professionalism by Claudio Fuiano, and the result is amazing! The package design by Alessio Iannuzzi features the original character artwork and has been approved by the Bozzetto studio. The liner notes were written by the cinema and music journalist Andrea Morandi (CIAK magazine). The CD comes with a cardboard slipcase that can house both of the CDs dedicated to Bruno Bozzetto's cartoons, VIP mio fratello superuomo (Beat Records CDX1011) and West and Soda.
