The Tuareg chieftain, Gacel (Mark Harmon), lives in a remote desert oasis in the desert with his people, livestock and the family: his wife and teenage son to whom he teaches with love and firmness, to mould his physical hardening and the inflexibility in his character, needed to face all kind of difficulties and the frequent unpredictable dangers of the desert life. Lost in the desert and exhausted by fatigue and the terrible thirst of the desert, two strangers appeared and enjoyed the hospitality offered by Gacel, sacred hospitality, according to the traditions of the Tuareg. But the two bring with them devastation in the peaceful daily life of the small tribe. A patrol of soldiers from the edge of the desert garrison, who were searching for the two, believed dangerous criminals, arrive at the oasis and manged to kill the younger guest and kidnap the older one, sweeping away the useless resistance of the Tuareg. Outraged by the violation suffered by the sacred tribal law, Gacel starts to follow them unnoticed, and, after an incredible series of fights, ambushes, executions and ruthless adventures to the limit of human endurance, he managed to freed his guest and handed him over to the garrison of soldiers, opponents of the other, at their outposts of a border town. Gacel eventually found out that his family was captured, held hostage and outraged, so the chief Tuareg reaches the city to complete the mission of death. Riz Ortolani composed and conducted a symphonic OST where emerges the main theme played by French horns. This is why epic music is frequently alternated with ethnic pieces and dramatically violent battle scenes. The recording of this CD, with total time of 38:44, comes from the stereo master tapes, of the original recording sessions, well preserved at the archives of the Ortolani Family.
